7 Surprising Things to Do in Wisconsin Dells (That Aren’t Waterparks)
Let’s be real — waterparks are what put Wisconsin Dells on the map. But if you think that’s all this town has to offer, you’re seriously missing out. Whether you’re a first-timer or a local looking for something different, we’ve rounded up 7 lesser-known (but awesome) things to do in the Dells — and none of them require a swimsuit.
From hikes and lavender farms to rooftop goats and unexpected wine tasting, this list is your cheat sheet for experiencing the Dells like a local.
🌲 1. Hike to a Secret Beach at Chapel Gorge Trail
Just a short drive from downtown Dells, Chapel Gorge Trail is a 1.8-mile loop through shady forest that leads to a peaceful beach on the Wisconsin River. It’s free, not crowded, and a total vibe if you want nature without the noise.
Tip: Bring bug spray and a blanket. You’ll want to stay awhile.
🍷 2. Sip Local Wines at Fawn Creek Winery
About 10 minutes north of town, Fawn Creek Winery offers daily tastings, scenic views, and live music on weekends. Their fruit-forward wines are fun (try the Razz Prairie) and they’ve got snacks to keep you going.
Looking for something quieter? Check out Baraboo Bluff Winery for even better bluff views and fewer crowds.
🌸 3. Wander Through a Lavender Farm
From June through August, New Life Lavender & Cherry Farm is straight out of a Pinterest board. Explore their walking trails, enjoy lavender ice cream, or shop their local products. It’s only about 25 minutes from the Dells and feels like a mini escape to the French countryside.
🐐 4. Feed Goats on a Roof at Timbavati Wildlife Park
Yep, it’s a thing. Timbavati Wildlife Park lets you feed goats from a bridge over their barn. But that’s just the beginning — you can also see kangaroos, giraffes, and lemurs. It’s a great stop for families and genuinely fun for all ages (don’t pretend it’s not).
🖼️ 5. Walk Through a Real-Life Optical Illusion
Everyone knows about Ripley’s Believe It or Not, but the Top Secret Upside Down White House deserves its own category of weird.
Visit it here — it’s bizarre, kind of janky, and 100% Dells. You’ll either love it or roast it in a group text later. Either way, worth the $10.
🧘 6. Take a Yoga Class with Bluff Views
Yoga in the Park is a partnership between Devil’s Lake State Park and Carla Weissing, along with her team at Kingfisher Yoga which offers yoga classes for anyone interested in starting the day with a good stretch, a moment of relaxation and centering your mind and body to conquer the day ahead. Classes are held at the South Shore lawn of Devil’s Lake State Park (located here).
🌅 7. Watch the Sunset from the Riverwalk
This one’s free and seriously underrated. Head to the Wisconsin Dells Riverwalk in downtown, grab one of the viral Strawberry Dubai Choclate Cups from Wichoacana or a cold drink from The District and stroll along the river at golden hour.
If you hit it at the right time, the light is 🔥 for photos.
